Allies in Prevention Coalition Members
An initiative of SCAN of Northern Virginia, the AIPC engages child and family welfare advocates in communicating regional messages to prevent child abuse and promote children’s well-being in Northern Virginia. The Coalition increases community and individual involvement to prevent family violence by sharing best practices; combining resources; and collaborating on effective public education messages about positive parenting and child abuse prevention. Members of the Coalition guest blog for us on a regular basis.

Tracy Leonard
Tracy joined SCAN’s staff in 2013 as the Public Education Manager, bringing years of experience as a school teacher and principal. With a Master of Arts in Psychology with a specialization in Organizational Consulting, Tracy blogs about news and resources related to SCAN’s outreach through our Darkness to Light partnership, Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention trainings, advocacy trainings, and other community education initiatives.

Sarah Self
Sarah joined SCAN’s staff in 2003 as the Public Education Coordinator, long before a blog or social media were even a part of the organization’s outreach efforts. Over the past decade, Sarah has helped SCAN’s Public Education Program grow to reach thousands of community members every year through print media, radio and — today — social media. She blogs about trends related to child abuse and community engagement, SCAN’s Allies in Prevention Coalition and successful public education campaigns like Kids Need Connections.

SCAN Interns
SCAN is lucky to have the support of a number of interns throughout the year, ranging from MSW students from local universities to high school students participating in programs like the Urban Alliance. Our interns often write blog posts, Letters to the Editor and other pieces aimed at sharing our messages of prevention and parenting support.
